Darragh – Poor C.V. & Interview Skills
Darragh had made a very important decision - he was going to get a new job – he was very excited about the prospect of a move and quickly got his c.v. out to a number of Recruitment Agencies. He also applied directly for jobs advertised both on-line and newspapers. The first week passed without him hearing from either Employers or Recruitment Agencies, he didn’t think too much about it but when the second and eventually the third passed he started to worry – he rang the Recruitment Agencies and made appointments to meet quite a few of them. After that, he did start getting interviews but he then became disillusioned once again when he wasn’t winning any of the roles he interviewed for.
The feedback he was getting each time was that he was being ‘pipped to the post’ by other candidates who either had more experience or ‘sold’ themselves better at interview. This along with a poor C.V. was holding him back. Whilst the Recruitment Agencies were as helpful as they could be it wasn’t their job to coach him – he needed help and quick!
He decided to take matters into his own hands and logged onto Online Career Manager – he quickly discovered through some career consultancy sessions by phone that his C.V. was misrepresenting him i.e. not highlighting his skills, and this in turn was having a knock-on effect at interview. The C.V. was also very much a launch pad for the interview - like most people he didn’t enjoy doing interviews, he often felt coming out of one that he didn’t say that he wanted, had omitted certain to tell them about achievements, got muddled up in what he was trying to bring across – the list went on…

The very next role he interviewed for he got! He’s delighted with his new job, its challenging him and he’s very satisfied. He knows that in the future if he wants to go for a new job – he has all his information on Online Career Manager and he can access it again at anytime.
